Through its NYU Law Fellows program the State Energy & Environmental Impact Center at NYU School of Law offers opportunities to serve as special assistant attorneys general in state attorney general offices (focusing on clean energy, climate and environmental matters) or to work at state public utility commissions.
These are full-time, paid opportunities open to all. Each job has its own compensation, eligibility requirements, and required experience that is outlined in the fellowship posting. Some jobs require a law degree, but some only require applicants to have a knowledge of and enthusiasm for environmental law topics. NYU Law pays the fellow’s salary and provides benefits and professional development opportunities.
Fellowship opportunities are added on a regular basis and can be viewed here. Applications are currently being accepted for the following fellowships:
Attorney General Fellowships
- Special Assistant People’s Counsel – Maryland
- Special Assistant Attorney General (Fellowship) – Washington DC (Deadline 9/12)
Public Utility Commission Fellowships
- State Commission Fellow (Policy Analyst) – Louisiana (Office of Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis)

- State Commission Fellow – Massachusetts (Boston) (Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities)
This program has been added to the Green Jobs Network fellowships website climatefellowships.com and climate legal jobs website climatelawjobs.com. Thanks and good luck to those who apply!
