“National Clean Energy Project” Outlines New U.S. Energy Strategy

On Monday, February 23rd an event entitled National Clean Energy Project: Building the New Economy took place in Washington, DC.  This event was hosted by the Center for American Progress Action Fund with the goal of developing a plan and key guiding principles for the evolution of U.S. energy policy.  This program served as a follow-up to the National Clean Energy Summit that took place in August 2008. 

This event was attended by high-level government, business, labor and advocacy group leaders including President William Jefferson Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), Representative Ed Markey (D-MA), and energy executive T. Boone Pickens. 

Issues discussed at the event included modernizing and expanding the electricity grid and options to increase domestic sources of clean energy.  Video of the event (in three parts) is provided below.  In addition, policy documents associated with this event are available.
