Today (5/16) – Careers in Wind Energy Webinar at 3:00 pm Eastern (Free event)

On May 16 a Careers in Wind Energy Webinar will take place. This free program is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind Powering America 2012 webinar series. It will provide an overview of the wind energy careers from an industry perspective. The webinar will focus on recent work in defining wind energy careers while highlighting some of the critical, but lesser known, career paths in the wind industry.  Presenters will be:

  • Andy Swift, with the engineering department at Texas Tech University, will discuss graduates entering the workforce in resource assessment and project design and development.
  • Jonathan Miles, James Madison University, will discuss careers in policy and finance related to renewables.
  • Derek Johnson, Redstone College, will discuss the career of a wind smith, where graduates are employed, and what the college is hearing from graduates and the industry about the technical training program.
  • Jonathan Bartlett, Wind Powering America national director, will discuss wind-related careers in law, banking, archaeology, biology, environmental consulting, and more.

New Business Development
* Identify and screen sites with strong potential for the successful development of a wind project and the subsequent processes relating to securing a grid connection offer

Project Management
* Planning, coordination and acquisition of required local, state and federal permits (These include construction, right-of-way, FAA, environmental, cultural, native prairie, etc.)
* Provide support to Technical Specialist in development tasks, including grid interconnection and study process, preliminary layout design, project status and budget reporting, preliminary permitting and study, selection and management of outsource service providers, project meteorological program, etc.
* Coordinate with Business & Asset Management Associate on development of project specific financial models
* Generate and respond to RFP’s

WINDPOWER Job Fair and Careers In Wind Seminars to Take Place May 24-26 in Dallas

There are two programs taking place during the upcoming 2010 WINDPOWER Conference and Exposition that may be of interest to job seekers.  This conference will be held at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.

Advance registration for the programs listed below ends on Friday, May 21.  After this point, you can still register on-site to visit the job fair booths and attend the Careers in Wind seminars.  Job Fair registration will be on Level 3 near the Arena on the "A" side of the building.

The session features experts who specialize in helping vetrans with transitions from military to wind energy, as well as top managers from companies who will share information about the advantages of hiring vets.

Session 2: Careers in Wind: Starting Your Career in Wind Energy
Tuesday, May 25, 10:00am – 1:00pm

Wind energy needs a host of skilled, experienced workers from engineers to tradesman to business professionals to construction workers. This seminar will focus on how to look for opportunities in the wind industry, as well as, how you can apply your current skills. A brief overview of the wind industry will be included.
