The Virginia Green Jobs Fair will take place on October 14 in Richmond, Virginia. This event will provide job seekers with the opportunity to meet with representatives from companies and academic institutions and learn about services from the Virginia Employment Commission and the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (event agenda available here).
This event is free and open to the public (registration is recommended and available here). This event will take place from 2:00 – 6:00 pm at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A, 403 N. Third Street, Richmond, VA.
This event is being held in conjuction with the Virginia Governor's Conference on Energy.
Swords to Plowshares, a not-for-profit organization that serves military veterans, is currently accepting applications for a number of free green job training classes for veterans that will be held at the Pleasant Hill campus of Diablo Valley College. A list of the classes, eligibility criteria, and application instructions are listed below.
Course: Water Use and Conservation
54 hours, 3 units of credit for 25 students
Curriculum to include AWWA exam and certification
Dates: August 2 through August 27, 2010
Days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Hours: 9:00AM-1:30PM
Location: Diablo Valley College campus in Pleasant Hill, Engineering Technology Building, Room ET-123
Course: Solar Thermal Systems
108 hours, 4 units of credit with lab for 25 students
Class will include NABCEP prep. Course and Exam
Dates: August 16 through September 17, 2010
Days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Hours: 9:00AM-5:00PM (1/2 hour lunch break)
Location: Diablo Valley College campus in Pleasant Hill, Engineering Technology Building, Room ET-105
Recommended: Math competency at the level of Intermediate Algebra and familiarity with construction/electricity skills
Course: Solar Photovoltaic and Thermal Installation Techniques
108 hours, 2 units of credit with lab for 25 students
Class will include NABCEP prep. Course and exam
Dates: September 21 through November 23, 2010
Days: Tuesday and Thursday
Hours: 9:00AM-3:30PM (1/2 hour lunch break)
Location: Diablo Valley College campus in Pleasant Hill, Engineering Technology Building, Room ET-105
Recommended: Math competency at the level of Intermediate Algebra and familiarity with construction/electricity skills
Qualifying Career fields desired but not required

*SPACE IS LIMITED, FIRST COME FIRST SERVED*
*MUST HAVE SEPARATED FROM THE MILITARY AFTER AUGUST 1991*
• Possess a DD-214 (states served after August 1991)
• Possess a current, valid state issued driver's license and personal owned vehicle
• Possess a social security card
• Are physically able to install solar panels
• Can pass a basic Math and Reading assessment test
• Can pass a background check
