Net Impact Releases 2010 Student Guide to Graduate Business Programs

Net Impact has recently released the latest edition of its publication Business as UNusual: The Net Impact Student Guide to Graduate Business Programs.  This report provides a student perspective on the ways in which graduate programs incorporate social and environmental themes into the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and career services.  The 2010 guide includes details on 95 programs, including 13 international schools, compiled from the opinions of 3,000 students within the Net Impact network.

UMass Dartmouth Offers Free Online Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Development

UMass Dartmouth The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Sustainability Studies is offering a free, non-credit, online professional graduate certificate in Sustainable Development (referred to as "PBCSD" – Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Sustainable Development). PBCSD is a 2-semester program, beginning in Fall 2010 and running through Spring 2012.  This program is currently open for Massachusetts residents who hold an undergraduate degree and meet one of these categories:

  • Unemployed and seeking job training for the clean energy job market
  • Underemployed and seeking to transition to a better position
  • Interested in entrepreneurial opportunities in the clean energy market
  • Employed and are seeking sustainability training to receive a promotion/salary increase*

Swords to Plowshares Offers Veterans Free Green Job Training in Pleasant Hill, California

Swords to Plowshares, a not-for-profit organization that serves military veterans, is currently accepting applications for a number of free green job training classes for veterans that will be held at the Pleasant Hill campus of Diablo Valley College. A list of the classes, eligibility criteria, and application instructions are listed below.

Course: Water Use and Conservation

54 hours, 3 units of credit for 25 students
Curriculum to include AWWA exam and certification
Dates: August 2 through August 27, 2010
Days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Hours: 9:00AM-1:30PM

Location: Diablo Valley College campus in Pleasant Hill, Engineering Technology Building, Room ET-123


Course: Solar Thermal Systems

108 hours, 4 units of credit with lab for 25 students
Class will include NABCEP prep. Course and Exam
Dates: August 16 through September 17, 2010
Days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Hours: 9:00AM-5:00PM (1/2 hour lunch break)

Location: Diablo Valley College campus in Pleasant Hill, Engineering Technology Building, Room ET-105

Recommended: Math competency at the level of Intermediate Algebra and familiarity with construction/electricity skills


Course: Solar Photovoltaic and Thermal Installation Techniques

108 hours, 2 units of credit with lab for 25 students

Dates: September 21 through November 23, 2010
Days: Tuesday and Thursday
Hours: 9:00AM-3:30PM (1/2 hour lunch break)

San Bernardino Workforce Development Department Offers Free Energy Auditor Training

The County of San Bernardino Workforce Development Department is offering free Energy Auditor training to qualified individuals, through federal funding for green jobs training.  Specifically, the program will offer participants the opportunity to gain a nationally-recognized certification in Building Analysis from the Building Performance Institute (BPI).  Additional details and registration information is available via this flyer (PDF).

City of Raleigh Offers Free Green Building Training

The City of Raleigh Office of Sustainability has developed a Green Building Training Program through a grant from the Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) and the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.  Through its Green Building Training Program, the Office of Sustainability is offering classes and certifications for a $25.00 refundable fee per class to construction professionals.

The next class offered will be LEED AP - Building Design & Construction (2 day class: July 20-21).  Registration is currently opened and will close on July 9th. Registration for this class and information on other course offerings is available here.
