Clean Energy Workforce Education Conference to Take Place November 13 – 15 in Albany

The 5th National Clean Energy Workforce Education Conference will take place in Albany, New York from November 13-15, 2012.  This conference is organized by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) and sponsored by the New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA).

This conference will provide information on instructional strategies, curriculum development, credentialing and best practices for training in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields. The program will feature three plenary sessions, over 60 breakout presentations, and five pre-conference technical workshops.  Complete conference information is available here.

Free Webinar on October 17th to Focus on Careers in Wildlife Conservation, Natural Resource Management and Environmental Education

On October 17th, the National Environmental Education Foundation in collaboration with the American School Counselors Association and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services is hosting a webinar to inform school counselors and educators about careers in the fields of wildlife conservation, natural resource management and environmental education.

The webinar will feature key leaders from government agencies and experts in the field. A resource toolkit will be offered in conjunction with the webinar, further equipping counselors to share wildlife conservation opportunities with their students.  Registration is free and educators nationwide are invited to attend this webinar.

Presenters at this webinar will be

Akiima Price, Principal, Akiima Price Consulting will give an overview of the current landscape of the career opportunities in Wildlife Conservation, Natural Resource Management and Environmental Education. In addition, she will share strategies for building pathways to environmental careers for minority high school students.

Dawn Lagrotteria, Chief, Professional Development Branch, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will provide information on the career and internship opportunities within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. She will also share information about the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) new Pathways Program for students.

Massachusetts Green Career Conference to Take Place in Marlborough on October 4th

On October 4nd, a Massachusetts Green Career Conference will take place in Marlborough, MA.  This event will take place from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Marlborough Holiday Inn Ballroom (265 Lakeside Avenue).  The program will feature speakers, workshops, and exhibitors relevant for the following audiences:

  • Education & Training administrators, staff, faculty, workforce developers, career services professionals
  • Business professionals from a variety of industries
  • Government staff and environmental policy makers

On May 16 a Careers in Wind Energy Webinar will take place. This free program is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind Powering America 2012 webinar series. It will provide an overview of the wind energy careers from an industry perspective. The webinar will focus on recent work in defining wind energy careers while highlighting some of the critical, but lesser known, career paths in the wind industry.  Presenters will be:

  • Andy Swift, with the engineering department at Texas Tech University, will discuss graduates entering the workforce in resource assessment and project design and development.
  • Jonathan Miles, James Madison University, will discuss careers in policy and finance related to renewables.
