Background

eBay Inc.’s philanthropy and related programs are carried out through the eBay Foundation. Founded in 1998, the Foundation operates grant and volunteerism programs addressing a range of causes, with a focus on improving the well being of local communities, consistent with eBay Inc.’s social purpose.

As of January 1, 2009, the Foundation will be a ‘private foundation’ whose Board is appointed by eBay Inc. Operationally, the Foundation is part of eBay Inc.’s Global Citizenship initiative, and thus reflects the company’s overall citizenship mission, objectives, strategy and activities.

Position Responsibilities

Reporting to eBay Inc.’s VP of Global Citizenship, the Executive Director of the Foundation is responsible for leading the Foundation and its philanthropic activities, which includes:

Mission, Strategy and Programs: The Executive Director will develop the Foundation’s mission, objectives, strategies and programs.

Program Operations: The Executive Director will manage the Foundation’s programs and other operations, including oversight of the Foundation’s staff. 

Communications: Working with eBay Inc.’s communications team, the Executive Director will ensure that the Foundation’s programs are effectively promoted.

Staff: The Executive Director will hire, manage, develop and evaluate the Foundation’s staff, in accordance with eBay Inc. policies and practices.

Legal Compliance: Working with eBay Inc.’s inside and outside counsel, the Executive Director will ensure that the Foundation’s programs and other operations are carried out in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations.

Financial Management: The Executive Director will develop a financial budget necessary to carry out the Foundation’s programs and other operations, which will be subject to input and approval of the Foundation’s Board.

Outside Relationships:   In coordination with eBay Inc.’s Global Citizenship group, the Executive Director will build relationships with nonprofits and other outside parties instrumental to the achievement of the Foundation’s mission, strategy and programs.

Relationship with Foundation Board: Working with eBay Inc.’s VP of Global Citizenship, the Executive Director will keep the Foundation’s Board regularly informed on the Foundation’s programs.

Global Citizenship Leadership Team: In addition to leading the Foundation, the Executive Director will serve on the leadership team of eBay Inc.’s Global Citizenship group.
